Candlelit Draped Engagement Dinner Set Up

Planning an intimate engagement celebration in West Wales? Emily and Simon’s candlelit engagement dinner shows what happens when you embrace the vibes.

This wasn’t your typical bright-and-airy setup, as that would be really difficult on a February evening in West Wales. They opted to embrace the cosy and got Quirk into it to create some atmosphere. With simple, elegant draping and candlelight, they created something properly moody, the kind of evening where everyone actually stays at the table.

The setup was simple but intentional. Draped fabrics softened the space, candles provided all the light needed, and the clean colour palette let the atmosphere do the work.

Creating Atmosphere for Your Celebration

If you’re thinking about an engagement dinner or intimate wedding celebration in Pembrokeshire, here’s what worked:

Candlelight over overhead lighting — It’s warmer, more flattering, and creates natural shadows that photograph beautifully. More is more when it comes to candles; you still need light, and so does the photographer, so go wild with candles.

Texture and draping — Fabrics add depth to your space without requiring elaborate florals or decoration. Remember if you go for a coloured draping, that’s the colour of your face, so I just a splash of colour works, but I wouldn’t go crazy with red as you will look like a beetroot.

Embrace the mood — Dark and moody isn’t for everyone, but if it suits you, lean into it. Your photos will feel different from everything else. Also, this doesn’t mean the photos will be dark and moody; photographers can use off-camera flash to create something different, brighter and more even. It just depends on what you want.
